This time next week, we’ll be getting ready to host Graham Coxon in our shop! What’s this all about? Oxjam!
Oxjam is Oxfam’s month-long music festival. It runs all through October (though there are tons of things around all-year!) with hundreds of events around the UK, all organised by volunteers who know and love their local music scene, all raising money to save lives around the world. You can find other Oxjam events near you here — we know of Oxjam teams based in Stoke Newington just as a hyper-local start…
The very first Oxjam was launched in our shop back in 2007, but that was a very different affair – it was not long after the shop had opened as a bookshop (the old shop was still open up the road) and the gigs were held downstairs. For the last two years, the shop has been turned by Festival Republic and the Oxjam Team into a professional gig venue — there’s a little disruption to our normal way of working, obviously, with some restricted opening hours expected next week, but we think it’s worth it to a) get Oxjam some press attention b) give the shop another unusual function.
Tickets are available for some of the launch gigs here, and keep an eye on our Twitter/Facebook page for info on an in-store raffle we’re going to run to offer tickets to each of the gigs.
